Voltaire lived a very eventful life. He was able to accomplish various things such as becoming an author and writing over thousands of letters, pamphlets, and books. He was one of several Enlightenment thinkers whose ideas influenced others of the French and American Revolutions. Voltaire became an important author, philosopher, and playwright making the world how it is today, "All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds." (Voltaire). Voltaire became a major author because of his childhood, personal life, and what influenced him to write. What led Voltaire to become an author started during his childhood. Voltaire was born on November 21, 1694 as Francois-Marie Arouet in Paris. Francois was not poor and was born into an upper-middle class family. Voltaire’s father then got him a job as a secretary for the French ambassador. Voltaire soon fell in love with a French refugee named Catherine Olympe Dunoyer. Her and Voltaire were to get married but a government arrest letter came and stopped the marriage. Voltaire had continued writing giving his opinion to the Church and nobility which got him exiled and sent to the Bastille for a year. While in prison Voltaire continued to write and published his novels and plays once he was out. Voltaire was still exiled and went to England where he studied and learned more about other Enlightenment thinkers like John Locke. In England Voltaire realised how much better the relationship of free government and creative departments were. After his exile was over he came back to Paris and published some essays defending the British writing system which France did not agree with and held book burnings which caused Voltaire to
