Washington’s Farewell Address Broken Down Before Washington left his place as president, he left a few warnings for what to avoid in the future. Americans did not follow this advice that could have saved us from many wars and controversy between citizens and other countries. Washington wrote these dangers being he saw them beginning to happen during his presidency and did not want them to become issues in the future. Three possible issues caught Washington’s eye during his presidency. Washington wanted people to be aware of the problems that may come from splitting into two political parties, national debt, and staying neutral. Washington’s farewell address first mentioned the dangers of having two different political parties. In the future, Washington thought the separation of political beliefs would ruin the nation’s unity and create conflict between the citizens. Washington understand that people love power and the right to their freedom but he thought if citizens rebel it would make government more strict and create a tyranny. He advise, “A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart, is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position.”(❡3). Many people abuse their power and freedom and power is very often of great importance to most people. Many would deny it but humans are power hungry and sometimes can get out of control to make their point clear and release their frustration for a certain idea or opinion. Washington knew this would cause much trouble to the government officials and the fellow citizens so he advised the people not to rebel or try and overthrow the
