Blue is written around a general timeline that begins in April of 1992 with Los Angeles Riots, sparked by the acquittal of four white officers in the Rodney King beating, and ends in 2010 with the death of former chief Gates and the early days of the administration of present/day chief Charlie Beck. Within this timeline are the activities and influences on events by many people, most particularly former chiefs Willie Williams, Bernard Parks and Bill Bratton; mayors Tom Bradley, Richard Riordan and Antonio Villariagosa; activist Connie Rice; former gang members; and Rampart Scandal scoundrel Ray Perez. Melvin Santiago of the Jersey City Jersey Police Department was not simply shot in the line of duty, he was viciously ambushed by a man determined be a cop killer and, possibly, to commit suicide by cop (Kulbarsh, 2015). The attacker, Lawrence Campbell, age 27, assaulted an armed security guard inside the Walgreens pharmacy, took the guards pistol, told witnesses he was going to be famous (New Jersey police officer shot, 2014). Campbell waited in the parking lot for the first cruiser to arrive and opened fire on officer Santiago as he stepped out of his vehicle. Thirteen shots were fired, and Santiago was struck in the head. As the shooting was happening, other officers arrived and began firing at Campbell from their vehicles.
By appropriately judging the needs of the department and city as a whole Chief Davis was able to make a better received change that united the city as well as the department. This is counterintuitive to me as I would think that an internal focus would be better for lasting change but in this case the needs of the city and department dictated outreach and sharing of ideas. Chief Davis embraces one of the most fundamental aspects of a police executive, reaching out and securing support/resources required for successful performance (Cordner, 2016). Filling the role of Chief includes taking on the role of the political go mediator concerning the community/government and the police department itself. Chief Davis must garner support from the city who at this point thought of the police as an “occupying army” rather than an intricate necessary part of a successful thriving Lowell community.

Three Trails of Officers Acquitted in the fatal shooting of African Americans Shootings of African Americans by police in the USA is inflating. Officers involved in shootings are being discharged from trials. While people who advocate officers seem to be convinced with guiltless conclusions, victims’ families and others who defend them, call the trails as “implicit bias” against minorities. The three trails of the officers Jeronimo Yanez, Ray Tensing and Dominique Heaggan- Brown support such situation. Officer Ray Tensing’s trial ended in a mistrial and other two were found not guilty.

Every time I decide to watch the news, there always seems to be a story about an officer of the law shooting an innocent victim. This problem never truly resonated with me until reading an article about “The Myth of Police Reform.” Throughout this editorial there are countless examples of incidences where police intervention should be deemed unnecessary. There are some scenarios where extreme force may be needed, but a majority of them do not. Ta-Nehisi’s editorial supports this, even though it may have a few drawbacks related to the ethos, but he still manages to support his main claim with sufficient logos and pathos.
The first official constitution of the United States was the Articles of Confederation. A congress consisting of 13 delegates from each of the original colonies worked during and following the American Revolutionary War. The Articles were written in 1777 and formally ratified in 1781. It was one of the nation 's first attempts at establishing diplomacy and reasonable authority. They were well-intentioned, however, the Articles proved to be quite problematic and not entirely functional.
African Americans Face a War on More Than One Front America has been known throughout history as the home of the free, but that freedom did not come without struggles. While the Revolutionary War and the fight for abolition represent famous past struggles, there are still fights for freedom taking place in America today, specifically in the African American community. African Americans have struggled unnecessarily in America, in particular with police and drugs. The indifference between African Americans and police, although widely publicized recently, is not a recent problem.
For example, in December 1969, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) raided the Black Panther headquarters with the means of confiscating the Party's rifles. According to Bobby Seale, lhe LAPD arrived with a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, an uncountable amount of officers, and five thousand rounds of ammunition, gas masks, a helicopter, a tank, and one military-grade grenade (allpower.wordpress.com “How did the media portray the Black Panthers?). At the beginning of the raid, the Black Panther Party resisted the attack. However, after a five-hour battle, the Black Panther Party finally surrendered. According to an article published by the Los Angeles Times on December 9th, 1969, the police operated the mission with such force for self-protection against threatening militants, claiming the “Blacks use arsenal of automatic weapons, shotguns, and grenades.”
In the Criminal Justice System of the United States, there has been a disparity affecting African-American communities and minority groups. Minorities perceive themselves as the main targets of police use of force, racial profiling, and a bias culture within law enforcement. The central argument, is that such actions have an impact on the relationship between police officers and the African American community, causing problems in our society. But does history explain why law enforcement has developed a negative relationship with African-Americans? In our democratic era, police officers are considered a walking symbol of safety and protection.
Police officer’s reputations are reduced and they lose the public’s trust as protectors. Specifically, society talks about the act of a white police officer savagely attacking a black citizen. The black population was enraged by this act and formed activist movements to prevent any police brutality brought upon them. As the controversy rise, society starts picking a side to defend. In this case, the nation is split into two sides.
After reviewing Sir Robert Peel's nine principles of policing I believe all nine principles are still evident in modern policing. These principles of policing were created as a standard for initial modern police forces, however due to modernization of policing through technology and training, some of these standards have evolved to adapt to today’s standards of policing. Let us examine how these principles were the foundation for modern police forces, and the standards they coincide with today, beginning with Peel’s first principle. Peel’s first principle states the basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder (Dempsey & Forst, 2016).
