The most defining times in history tend to be in the years of great war. One example of a defining time in history was World War II. This war took place on almost every continent on the Earth. This war had an extraordinary influence in America 's history. One event that had the biggest impact on America was the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. That attack was the defining reason for the people of the United States of America to fully support, and join World War II on the side of the Allies.
World War II started in the year 1939, when German troops invaded Poland. In the first two years of the war, the United States remained neutral, in the fact that the U.S. did not have troops on the ground fighting. On the other hand the U.S. was sending food and weapons to Britain to help support the war. America did not fully join the war until the Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. For example, the war ended the Great Depression, because of the need for work. Almost all of the able men went to fight in Europe, which left the women to work in the factories. Also at this time African Americans were able to join the military and to work in the factories. Another positive outcome of the war was that the exports exceeded the imports at the time. Which meant that the country was becoming more wealthy, which brought up the minimum wage and the American people were able to make a nice living once again. Sadly as always, for any war there is death. In this war there was about 406,000 deaths alone from the United States. Even Though the average American made more money, the people that did not go and fight had to deal with harsh wartime rationing.
