Authors use language to inform his/her readers to understand the significance of the past. If we didn't know what happened in the past that changed our country, we wouldn't be able to persuade ourselves to impact society. Language is a powerful tool that we use every day. Language is what has us communicate with others, what has us express our ideas. Martin Luther King Jr informed the whole United States that black people were being treated with disrespect and hatred by the white people and that we should all be treated equally as a nation. He says in this speech, ¨I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character¨.
