Elite Athletes Effect on Society
It is without a doubt that kids and young athletes look up to collegiate and professional athletes as role models and icons. As many people know, kids notice little things as well as big things and sometimes mimic their role models every behavior. Elite athletes definitely have something that should be praised, but this praise should be confined to athletic ability alone. The fame and glory gives these athletes a platform to change the world and affect the future of young generations. The question is: Should this power be given and are these athletes using their power in a positive aspect? There are countless more athletes that could be mentioned and even more that have been suspected of use. Most of these athletes went for some time before being caught, being praised and rewarded for their astounding accomplishments. The popularity of performance enhancing drugs in professional sports causes a question of validity to professional sport itself.
Attitude is something obvious that kids see and notice about elite athletes, but what people do not realize is that kids are picking up on these athletes’ characters off the field as well. Two of the major issues that display the athletes’ character is their promiscuity and breaking the law. This is something that is seen every day in the sport world.
