3D printing has proved to be beneficial to our community, but the consequences of this new technology outweigh the advantages, due to the disruptiveness it causes in society. The price, materials, and job loss are just a few of many reasons why 3D printing is a negative effect on society. Arguably the biggest disadvantage of 3D printing is the cost. The cost of a 3D printer can range from three hundred thousand to 2 million dollars, making the range of buyers limited to the big time businesses and companies. The cost is extended even further because 3D printers are relatively new and only a handful of people are considered experts in 3D printing, so it is required--or highly recommended--that a team of trained professionals are paid to work the 3D printer. Paying these people is another pretty penny that can really add up. The …show more content…
3D printing opens inventors to create better design models at lower costs and without having to change their original models. 3D printing can become “the perfect tool for research and development as it allows us to quickly prototype and test small components in a short space of time.” (Advantages vs Disadvantages of 3D Printing in Research and Development | Integrated Technologies Ltd). With 3D printers available for developmenters to use, many boundaries for furthering manufacturing designs are broken. Technology, like the 3D printer, is always changing and improving. “As technology develops further, the 3D printing process will become faster and more cost-efficient.” (Advantages vs Disadvantages of 3D Printing in Research and Development | Integrated Technologies Ltd). In the near future, as 3D printing improves and becomes a more popular method of production, 3D printing will help positively impact society despite all its
