A superpower is a country or group of countries that successfully exerts their economic, military, cultural and geopolitical power, in order to influence global events. Currently in the globalised world of today it could be argued that American culture, a trapping of soft superpower influence, is currently leading to a homogenous cultural world through westernisation, and will be replaced by a more culturally diverse world. Military is important when protecting resources such as fossil fuels from other countries, instead they are forced to buy these non-renewable materials at high rates. As a result, the country should further develop its economy and therefore as a superpower. Countries that experience a loss of money or are economically undeveloped will have less credibility, their rate of development will plummet. A large component that influences economic growth is trade. The majority of world trade takes place between Europe, North America and Asia. By exploiting LEDCs, TNCs are able to take advantage of importing cheap resources and consequently achieve a high profit. The USA owns 140 of the world’s largest TNCs which earned a combined revenue of $7 trillion in 2010. This mass of wealth, collectively allowed the USA to progress rapidly and advance its technology so that the country was globally more interconnected and could dominate poorer places.
