In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, tells about a father named Atticus Finch, that cares for two children, Jean Louise(Scout) and Jeremy(Jem) Finch in Maycomb County Alabama. They live with many neighbors of strange characteristics. They also have, in their home, a black woman named Calpurnia(Cal) that helps out each day with cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children. The family shows what a modern family back then would be like and makes everything seem like a dream come true. Atticus is a very fair man. He treats everyone the same. As his daughter Scout likes to dress in shirts and overalls with a short haircut, Atticus doesn't treat her like she needs to be the stereotype of what a girl is supposed to be like. He shows them that what he does is the right thing to do even if not everyone agrees with it. He defends black people because he knows it's the right thing to do and if he didn't defend Tom Robinson he would be making a hypocritical decision and that's not what he wants to show his kids. He does that when he in a trial and when he's at home. When his sister, also known as Aunt Alexandra, comes to stay, they have a family event in which her grandson Francis comes to visit. Francis is also considered to be Jem and Scouts cousin. Francis like to taunt Scout about Atticus’ decisions and at one point they get into a fight about it and Atticus does the right thing and listens to Scouts side of the story rather than just jumping to conclusions and punishing her for fighting Francis. Even when somebody does something wrong he will listen to their side of the story and punish someone that is actually in the wrong rather than jumping into and just punishing what he thinks is
