When Bradbury mentions the phrase “we never ask questions” he was implying that people in society have a lack of curiosity due to the fact that technology is much easier to put your attention into. The lack of questioning in society can lead to a lack of understanding and critical thinking about important issues. Most people today are enclosed in technology and chose to work around hard challenges instead of using critical thinking and questioning problems. Without the use of these skills, people may be less likely to drive social change and progress in society. In addition to Bradbury's idea that television will substitute for thinking he also mentions that headphones will isolate humans from their surroundings. Montag observes his wife Mildred as she places her seashells in her ear, allowing her to disconnect from reality and the world around her. “There was a tiny dance of melody in the air, her Seashell was tamped in her ear again and she was listening to far people in far places, her eyes wide and staring at the fathoms of blackness above her in the ceiling” (39).
