Caitlin Clark’s Impact on Women’s Basketball Women’s college basketball has grown significantly in recent years, mainly due to the attention and following of one particular athlete and her team: Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Caitlin Clark is a 6’0” 22-year-old senior at the University of Iowa. She came straight from the heart of Iowa in West Des Moines and played at the high school level at Dowling Catholic High School. Clark is also a three-time gold medal winner at the FIBA World Basketball Championships (“Caitlin”). She is known for her crazy logo threes and incredible basketball skills. She has started all 130 games for the Hawkeyes in the last 4 years. She averages 28.3 points per game in her career and is currently 1st in the nation with PPG (points per game) this season with 32.3. Clark is also leading in this season’s assists per game with 8.7. She currently has the most assists of any active NCAA player with 1,058 assists, making her the 6th player in NCAA women’s basketball history to pass 1,000 career assists (“List”). Her field goal percentage this season is well above average, coming in at 46.5%. Her three-point shooting is also very accurate, Clark has made 509 career three-pointers with a 38.2% make percentage. Clark also has 923 rebounds and an 85.6% free throw percentage. One of the most impressive stats of all is the amount of double-doubles and triple-doubles Clark has racked up over the years. This year alone, she has 18 double-doubles and 6 triple-doubles, and the season isn’t over.
