Edgar Allan Poe creates fear and dread in “The Tell-Tale Heart” by using a lot of details and really specific on what he was doing.
He went into detail on how he killed the old man. “First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs.” He also went into detail on how it took him one hour to get his head into the old man's door so he can watch him sleep. The scene also takes place at night to make it seem a little bit creepier. Another reason that he creates fear is that the narrator was very creepy.
