Edgar Allen Poe Uses multiple literary devices to guide the reader through the stages of the passage. In multiple occasions, Edgar Allen Poe uses literary devices to scare the reader and provoke certain feelings and emotions of the reader. He also utilised suspense to the maximum when he makes readers wait to experience the vulnerability of The character. In paragraph 3, the character says “I moved it slowly, very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man's sleep.” showing that Edgar Allen Poe used repetition to make the reader anxious about the old man’s vulnerability as the main character has the ability to kill him at any point. This is an example of suspense because Poe, makes the reader wait for them to experience the thrill.
