e.e. Cummings once said, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” Cummings achieved this feat and became a famous poet. [Most people think of poets as creative and educated. e.e. Cummings was one of these creative and educated men that could write poetry about anything and everything.] e.e. Cummings used his time in World War I and his relationship with his 3rd wife, Marion Morehead, to create poems to become a trailblazer, setting a path for future poets.

Edward Estlin Cummings (e.e. Cummings) began writing poems at the age of 8. As he grew up and finished school, e.e. Cummings studied at Harvard University and received a Bachelor Arts and a Master of Arts degree in 1916. Growing up, e.e. Cummings was a pacifist by trade, but ended up going to World War I in 1917 as a volunteer medic. As a medic, e.e. Cummings was captured because of treason. Cummings was influenced by many things. Sometimes he would get influenced by another poet, he would be influenced by life choices and surroundings, or sometimes he would get influenced by a painting he saw. Once, he admired Pablo Picasso for his painting, and used the way his paintings made him feel to write poems. Another influence that guided his books/poems is his capturing during World War I, he used the room that he was held in as the title of his book, “The Enormous Room.” After the marriage of his third wife, Marion Morehead, e.e. Cummings began to write happier poems due to the status of his marriage. Also, he used the works of poets like Robert Frost, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, and Amy Lowell to create his poems. Other poets that he modeled from were Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, T.S. Eliot, John Dos Passos, and William Faulkner. Throughout his years, e.e. Cummings became a renowned and well respected poet that influence a fair share of poets
