In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag changes from an unhappy and unaware fireman, to a conscious and informed different person. Throughout the book Montag faces challenges and conflict, and through this starts to realize what is wrong in society. Guy changes from being ignorant to be ready to speak out and make a change.
In the beginning of the novel Guy did not question anything about his life. Being a fireman and being with Mildred was just his supposed happy life. It wasn't until his new neighbor Clairesse asked him “Are you happy?’She said. ‘Am I what?’”(Bradbury 7). No one had ever asked him this question before, and he didn't understand why she was asking him such a silly thing. This still made Guy question himself and his happiness
