Harper lee's classic of human nature and evils of man are well highlighted through the plot of story. This novel mainly centers on the characters’ lives through racial prejudice at extreme measures. Courage is said a couple times through the book and is the defense towards bad people and dead-ended situations.
Justice and equality are two important traits lacking in the town of Maycomb. Tom Robinson, an innocent black man, is under wrongful accusation of raping a young girl, Mayella Ewell. Due to a lack of morality and fairness, black people are naturally sentenced guilty and must suffer the consequences told by the judge. No normal lawyer wants to be part of a color coded case, since the chances of the black side not winning is often. The children would find themselves in the dark forest, with no one to get help from. Bob ewells attacked them in the dark, so jem would step up to protect her sister's life. In the black clearing of the woods he struggled with an anonymous figure until he wasn't able to fight anymore. This act represented a tremendous amount of courage when jem is only a 12 year old boy, when bob is a grown intoxicated man. Unpredictably, Boo Radley appears just in time and kills Mr. Ewell, saving Scout’s and Jem’s lives. He then carries Jem’s motionless body to the Finch house. Boo s a strange character throughout the novel, one to only be described by others, but never actually seen. This was his first encounter with any other person, as he courageously endangered his own life as he killed a man. Boo Radley had no personal reason to attack Bob Ewell, but he knew the children were innocent and needed help.
