Mark runs a small business named Farm to Family, providing more fresh and local choices to family shoppers. Gustafson’s purpose in the writing of this passage is not to entertain, but to persuade the reader that while some changes are needed to increase the efficiency of the US food system, simply buying local is not the solution. This case involved a black man named Tom Robinson who has been accused of raping white girl named Mayella Ewell. During the time period the novel takes place African American people were no longer slaves but were still denied a lot of rights that white people had. So one can only imagine how this whole town would react to someone who would help a black man who was accused of rape. Both To Kill a Mockingbird and The Butler are great at expanding people’s knowledge on racism. Although they have two entirely different plots, they both depict how little people value an African-American’s opinion, characters challenging racism and the acceptance of blatant racism.

These contents include racist themes engineered to bring light and context to the book's historical setting in a racist America, giving the book a sense of reality. However, some libraries have chosen to ban the book for the racism and racial slurs as well as descriptions of rape. Because it gives a valuable piece of narrative fiction as a true-to-life account of racist America through the eyes of a child, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned in libraries and schools for the racism, racial slurs, and descriptions of rape.
