Harper lee once said, “People gradually see what you look for, and hear what you listen for.”
This quote relates one of her character, jem in her famous book, To Kill A Mockingbird Who ages from 10 to 13 during the story. He is Scout's protector and one of her best friends. In the beginning of the book, Jem shows courage by going up to the Radley house. Throughout the story Jem learns bravery from Atticus facing his fear of shooting a gun again, Ms. Dubose fighting her addiction, Scout confronting Mr. Cunningham at the jail.
Furthermore, this proves that Jem has changed the most.

Even Calpurnia notices that Jem is becoming a young man, and he needs his own space to do what older boys do. Scout doesn’t understand that Jem is going to go off on his own because its apart of growing up. n addition, even adults notice that Jem is evolving into a young man.
