How Does Jem Finch Change Throughout The Novel

In the inspiring novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, characters go through many changes. The purpose for this essay is to reveal the changes throughout the book of one specific character. Jem Finch. The protagonist Jeremy Finch changes throughout the novel by leaving his “childish” ways behind, and developing into a young man. In chapter one, Jem and his little sister, Scout, meet a boy around the age of Scout by the name of Dill. Over the days, Jem and Scout develop a close relationship with Dill. On day, Dill dares Jem to touch the Radley’s house to persuade Boo Radley to come out. Boo Radley is man who has been in his house for many yearsa and hasn’t been seen. In this game, they would act as members of the Radley family to react the myths and stories they were told, and believed. Jem is still acting as a little boy in this chapter by playing such a “lower level” type of game with kids, Scout and Dill, who are younger than him. Surprisingly, Jem becomes older and have more mature actions and mind set. Such as, attending the trial of Tom Robinson in chapters seventeen through twenty-two. Jem was actually interested in the trial and understood right from wrong. “We got him now,” Jem grinned and pushed his hair back. When Tom was found guilty, Jem was mature-mined enough to know that it wasn’t the right conclusion. “It was Jem’s turn to cry. His face was streaked with angry tears as we made our way through the cheering crowd. In summary, To Kill a Mockingbird is a remarkable, inspirational novel that everyone should read. It teaches one right from right and also that you can’t judge someone or understand why or how they act unless you have been in their shoes. Regarding the essay, Jem Finch comes to age in many ways. He goes from playing games, doing dares, and building snowmen to attending a serious, on-edge trial and being affected emotionally by it. Jem’s mind definitely grew wiser throughout the book.
