Communication creates abilities to speak to others. Many different languages that help determine the many aspects within a culture such as ethnicity, religious beliefs, and shared values. Today, having the ability to understand culture can create bonds between cultures. This allows many different ethnicities and races around the world to communicate with one another. The purpose of this paper is show how languages influence a culture, the uniqueness of the Japanese culture, different idioms of the Japanese culture, and the history, values and traditions of the Japanese culture. In the article “Japanese’s Other Languages” It covers how there are at least 8 different languages in Japan (Hashi, 2012). Standard Japanese is the nationally spoken language of Japan. Another language is Japanese Sign Language. Commonly people think sign language is universal but, each culture is different. Ainu, is another language that native people who live north of the country speak. Hachioji is a language spoken by Japanese who live south of Tokyo (capital of Japan). Another language spoken in Japan is Amami. This is spoken from the people who live south of Kyushu (island of Japan). Traveling more south is the Miyako islands. Within this island many people speak Miyako. It differs from Standard Japanese but is still a Japanese language. Yaeyama is another variation of the Japanese language. It sounds very close to Standard Japanese but, it has fewer vowels than Standard Japanese. Yonaguni is language spoken by Japan and Taiwan due to it splitting the distance between Taiwan and Japan.
