In scene 1 of Act 5, Lady Macbeth is presented as quite disturbed and a guilt-ridden character. The scene starts with the Doctor and the gentlewoman, where they both talk about Lady Macbeth and her troubles so far. Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking and is acting almost powerless and lonely as Macbeth has gone into battle. In the opening paragraph, the doctor and the gentlewomen have been talking about Lady Mabeth and how she is not herself. The gentlewoman is almost like Lady Macbeth's right-hand person, so she knows everything about her.
The film Macbeth illustrates Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to have very different personalities than their original counterpart of the play. Lady Macbeth is portrayed as a much more grieving mother. Her characteristics change and are more revealed during the killing of the Macduff family. Throughout the film Lady Macbeth is demonstrated as a much more emotional character, with her grieving over her child's death, to the breakdown during the terrifying burning of the Macduff family. The new characteristics of the character also again give a new feel to the storyline of the character.
The play Macbeth is about how the main character Macbeth was blessed with prophecies to be king and his own actions stripped that gift away from him, leading to his death. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth’s starts out as a loyal soldier and the Thane of Glamis, but his demeanor and communication changes from being respectful, and loyal to being overconfident, and authoritative as he becomes more powerful over the course of the play. Right after Macbeth becomes the Thane of Cawdor he is thankful of Duncan for choosing him for this position, and Macbeth expresses that ¨the service and the loyalty (he) owe(s) in doing it pays itself. Your highness' part is to receive our duties.¨ (1.4.23-24) Although Macbeth is very honored to have this
Macbeth’s personality as a dynamic character changes throughout the play as opposed to a static character like Lady Macbeth, whose fixed goal is to kill King Duncan. A dynamic character allows Shakespeare to create a tragic hero, since Macbeth is of noble birth, goodwilled and transitions to evil natured and faces his downfall. The alterations Shakespeare makes for King Duncan and the events that surround his demise, reveals Shakespeare’s feelings regarding the monarchy, which serves dramatic and thematic purposes. These changes exemplify Duncan’s kingly virtues and underlines the calamitous ramifications for slaying the monarch. Shakespeare’s
The first incident upon which we start to notice his transformation is when the witches greet him with “all hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” (Shakespeare, Act I, Scene III, 51). Hereupon, his exceeding ambition overpowers him and the foretelling of the witches brings him joy. He cannot help himself but think about murder, and ultimately spurred by his wife’s teasing taunts he decides to kill Duncan in order to become King himself. Initially Macbeth’s good hearted character and state of self-awareness makes him reluctant to commit the deed.
Macbeth’s mental condition begins to dwindle as time goes on, starting with the murder of Duncan. At first, Macbeth is seen as a soldier that everyone aspires to be, strong, brave, and compassionate about his duties to the king. In act one scene two, Captain says, “...For brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name-...” This shows that he is a likeable person who has only the objective of serving his king. After meeting with the witches and hearing his prophecy, Macbeth starts to think about what it would be like to be king of Scotland.
We see Lady Macbeth shrink from the killing and Macbeth go through with it. We, as the audience, begin to dislike Macbeth for caving to the will of his wife and giving in to the murder of a benevolent king. After this we see Macbeth take the throne because Duncan’s sons flee the country for fear of their lives. Our dislike for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth only grows stronger.

From hearing a prophecy to committing murder, Macbeth develops a different character throughout the play. That could say Macbeth let a few words from the ‘witches’ puppet him. He was not the only one who was controlled; Lady Macbeth let Duncan’s death take over her, and drive her to insanity. To lose sleep, and going crazy, Lady Macbeth let her guilt eat her alive little by little. From a happy marriage to the Macbeths' no longer having love in their relationship and only having fear, guilt and hunger for power.
Shakespeare engineered a most impressionable character in Macbeth who easily succumbs to the extensive magnitude of opposing constraints. This character is Macbeth, who is the protagonist in the play and husband to a conniving wife, who in the end is the sole cause for Macbeth 's undoing. Conflicting forces in the play compel internal conflicts within Macbeth to thrive on his contentment and sanity as he his torn asunder between devotion, aspiration, morality and his very own being. He has developed a great sense of loyalty from being a brave soldier; however, his ambition soon challenges this allegiance. As his sincerity begins to deteriorate, his own sanity starts to disintegrate until the point where he cannot differentiate between reality
Macbeth's murderous actions come back to haunt him, both literally and figuratively, and in the end lead to his own destruction. For the most part nearly all of the main characters are killed one way or another. What
Williams Shakespeare’s plays are real eye openers when it comes to human nature which is why we read it today. Characters in Macbeth showed a lot of signs of change. He goes from being a loyal soldier to a cruel tyrant killing all of his enemies. In the beginning of the play he is presented as a loyal soldier to King Duncan and he is widely respected and admired by people. It can seem questionable as to why Macbeth is an antagonist when he has the trope of a hero. Despite that image, his inner thoughts begin to reveal themselves, showing another side to Macbeth that people don’t know about. Macbeth soon admits to his dark lust for power and status beyond his capability.
Macbeth started off as a valiant and courageous soldier, who would do anything for the king. By the end of the play, Macbeth was a tyrant and a horrible leader who killed those who trusted him to maintain the throne. It takes many factors to take a strong man and transform him into an evil monster. Macbeth’s downfall was caused by the deception and temptation of the witches and their prophecies, Lady Macbeth’s greed and aspirations for her husband to be king, and Macbeth’s own greed, jealousy and ambition.
