Hungry Hungry Politicians In the short story “Cannibalism in the Cars” by Mark Twain, the author uses satire, imagery, and irony to poke fun at how political decisions are made, and by using cannibalism as an effective way to raise one’s attention. Mark Twain shows dark humor in his work is by using satire. He uses satire as a tool to make fun of a destructive situation in hopes of creating a positive outlook. The story is written as if the congress men trapped on the train are literally eating each other. As crazy and extremely uncomfortable as that image is, it is not what he is actually trying to convey to the reader. The author uses Cannibalism in Cars as a satire to make fun of the government and how political decisions seem to be made.
