Throughout the novel A Single Shard all of the character’s changed drastically; however, Min caught the eyes of many readers. At first, Min was a tense, blunt man, but when he meets an orphan boy named Tree-ear who was working for him; his expressions, emotions changed.
At the beginning of the novel, Min was a plainspoken man. He said what he wanted with no sympathy. The author states the second day Tree-ear worked for Min he got scolded. Tree-ear was walking up to the house and he slowed down before he even got to the house because Min started to scold him. These were Min’s words; “What kind of useless boy was he, coming back so late the day before and leaving the cart without a word? That wood should have been taken to the kiln and unloaded.” Tree-ear had not been given specific directions to unload the cart, and after all Tree-ear had used a lot of his energy going up the bumpy, gutty roads all day. Min had no compassion to hear Tree-ear’s excuses. Another example, is on page thirty when Tree-ear had finished working for Min, but came back to ask if he could keep working. Tree-ear walked in the door and Min asked “What are you doing here?” Min’s voice was cross, and he did not look up. His behavior shows how Min was very blunt, and cautious of his surroundings. …show more content…

When Tree-ear was getting ready to go to Songdo for Min, Min put his hand on Tree-ear for a brief moment. He was slowly trying to show his care for Tree-ear that, he did not have at the beginning of the book. Another situation is when Min was trying to explain how Crane-man had died. The author states “Min leaned forward and put his hand on Tree-ear’s shoulder. The water was so cold... your friend was old.
