The 2002 film Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce is an Australian film about 3 girls, Molly, Gracie and Daisy. The girls were a part of the stolen generation. Phillip Noyce uses various techniques such as camera angles, costumes and interactions to show the complexity and development of the Moore River staff and A.O. Neville. Including power shifts, views into their personality and their beliefs.

To begin with, Noyce uses the technique of camera angles to show the complexity of Mr. Neville and the Moore River staff. For example, during the film Mr. Neville was always in charge of the girls or had some point of power over them, the use of camera angles showed this. Throughout the film we saw Neville interact with his assistant Miss Thomas, Neville was usally interacting with her when discussing the future or rules of the Aboriginal people in Western Australia. Neville’s interactions with Miss Thomas showed his complexity by giving a view into what he belives is best for Aboriginal children and people. He makes the final calls about whether a mum can go and visit her child in the settlement or if a person can buy new shoes for themselves. Nevilles interactions showed his complexity again by showing how he belives he is benefiting the children and the rest of the Aboriginal population. The Moore river staff proves their complexity by the first interaction with the girls. The girls are welcomed by Mrs Evans with warmth and tenderness but as quick as the girls came the interactions and behavior changed to. The next morning at breakfast the littlest, Daisy, didn’t like her food and spoke her native language then, A Moore River worker yelled at daisy to stop speaking in her native tongue. This proves the complexity of the Moore River staff by giving us a change in opinion or thought on the staff, like how they are told what to say and do and how their work life is like. Noyces use of interactions clearly signifies the complexity of Neville and the Moore River
