Each character is able to contribute to the story in many different ways, emotionally and physically. Even the quietest characters in the book, such as Theresa Cruz build up the story. Dynamic characters like Paul’s Mom add and make the story more enjoyable. Throughout the book characters show their personality by being
Archetypes: The Key to all Literature Characters, almost every book there is has at least one, though there are some repeating of character types or characteristics that they might share. This is called an archetype, it’s basically a typical character or an action/situation that represents patterns of human nature. An archetype could also be a universal symbol, a theme, or it could even be a setting. Overall, to better understand literature, one must be able to recognize archetypes.
Characters play a big role in a story. As well as they all have flaws. For example, the narrator’s weakness is her boyfriend, Raheem. She does what he says because “A boy like him can get any girl he want, he ain’t gotta take stuff off nobody.’ As you can tell, Raheem’s strengths are his looks.
A character can be explained as a set of qualities that are in a position to make that person distinctively different from the rest. The heroes in the story are described by the actions they take. For instance, the ancient chiefs' wife was dreaming. Consequently, the chief noticed that the tree was removed due to her dream. Speeches and dialogues also play a crucial role in developing characters' traits.
Characterization is an important part of a story because it gives us a description and a visual of the main characters. For example, in “The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Connel describes the antagonist, General Zarhoff. This occurs when Rainsford first meets him and he is described by saying, “Rainsford’s first impression was that the man was singularly handsome; his second was that there was an original, almost bizarre quality about the general’s face. He was a tall man, past middle age, for his hair was vivid white; but his thick eyebrows and pointed military mustache were as black as the night as the night as which Rainsford had come.”
In the novel, ¨Of Mice and Men,¨ the author, John Steinbeck, develops complex characters which opens the story up for interpretation. Steinbeck uses both direct and indirect characterization, which forces the reader to infer important traits about each characters. An example of a character is Crooks, a colored man working on a ranch during the Great Depression. Being the only black man on the ranch, Crooks is often looked down on as a stable bunk, and is not respected as the other men are. Because of this, Crooks is perceived as powerless.
Characterization is the process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character. There are two types of characterization, direct and indirect. Direct characterization is when the author tells the reader exactly what a character is like. Indirect characterization is when the author gives the reader clues and hints as to what the character is like which enables readers to infer or decide for themselves. In the story, “Harrison Bergeron,” the main character, Harrison, is tyrannical which is visible through the five ways to indirectly characterize, using Harrison’s speech, personal thoughts, appearance, actions, and how other characters feel towards him.
Characterization is “a literary device that is used step by step in literature to highlight and explain the details about a character in a story.” The texts states, “He’s unexpectedly there, like a warm day in January. He’s a rescuer.” (Pfeffer 1) This guides the reader to realize that Ashleigh’s father didn’t plan ahead, and that because of this that to him everything is a new opportunity to do good.
Characters bring the story to life. Dialogue is what brings the characters to life. Having these three attributes you will have an intriguing story. You can have a diverse set of characters. The character can be someone in the story, like Sonny in, “Sonny's Blue.”
All readers have come across the stereotypical character who is charming, good-looking, and the savior of the story and our hearts, but that is present in commercial fiction. In literary fiction, characters are something greater and deeper. In literary fiction, characterization is considered one of the most important elements in an author’s work. Characterization is the concept of creating a character.
The knowledge of how a character would act throughout a story. This knowledge is the key to understanding the development of the character. The author uses this concept to develop their character’s personality and how they would act in specific situations outside their normal “comfort zone”. This concept also helps the reader understand a character 's motivation and purpose in the story.
In my novel, See You Down the Road, by Kim Ablon Whitney, she uses characterization to describe the main character, Bridget Daugherty. First, the author tells the reader that Bridget is a 16 year old traveler. Bridget being a “traveler” means that she and her family are constantly on the road. They make money by tricking their bosses into giving them money. Next, Kim Ablon Whitney describes Bridget by saying that she is not sure that she wants to marry at sixteen.

Characterization is the act of describing someone
The writer must describe the characters in the beginning of the story in a way that the picture of the character’s description is set in the reader’s mind. So the reader can recognize the characters if there are so many in a story while reading. As a reader we need to keep in mind what each character has done, did or said throughout the story to understand their behavior and intentions. Technically character is the most important part of the story which also describes emotion and gives readers an idea about the
