Give 3 examples, w/ explanations, describing how George Orwell uses satire in Animal Farm. One of the examples is when Napoleon was very drunk. Squealer, announces that Napoleon is dying. Napoleon has stated that drinking alcohol is punishable by death, but when his hangover was over, Napoleon feels better. Napoleon asks Whymper to go into Willingdon to buy some books on brewing. This is situational irony because a situation occurs when Napoleon changes his opinion on alcohol very fast. He made a field for growing barley so he can make his own beer, for him and the other pigs. In this example of situational irony, an unexpected action occurs when Napoleon changes his opinion on alcohol so drastically within a matter of hours. At the end of the book it says “the creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” The pigs had started walking on their hind legs and were wearing clothing that were meant for humans. It's ironic how they went from hating humans to copying everything they do. My last example, is irony because Napoleon sold wood that Mr. Frederick has been wanting to buy for awhile. Mr. Frederick buys the wood but gave Napoleon fake money. Its irony because Napoleon and Snowball said they were the smartest pigs around. Napoleon couldn't even tell real and fake money
