The setting of the story creates horror just like suspense does. The typical horror story is in bad weather. In “The Monkey’s Paw” the weather was, “ the night was cold and wet.” This is an ideal setting for a horror story. The monkey’s paw, The main concept of this story, was also established on this dreary night. However, weather isn’t the only part also includes the place and time. Normal horror stories take place in dark,damp places or place that are in middle of nowhere. In “The Monkey’s Paw” the story takes place in, “‘the beastly, slushy, out of way places to live, this is the worst. Pathway’s a bog, and the roads a torrent. I don’t know what people are thinking about. I suppose because only two houses in the road are let’”(page 106
