Sometimes people may start out timid like a mouse but the choices they make can change them to become brave like a bear. In the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor The main character Paul who starts out timid, gets tougher over time. Paul's choices in the novel Tangerine affected him becoming mentally stronger and braver. This is shown through the example of Paul choosing to go to Tangerine Middle School, Jumping on Coach Warners back, and telling the police about what Arthur and Erik did to Luis. Paul’s choice of going to Tangerine Middle School affected his development. Paul wants to go to Tangerine Middle School because his other school got destroyed from the sinkhole. Also, Coach Walski did not let him play on the soccer team, and Paul wanted a fresh start. Paul tells his mom that he's going to Tangerine Middle School: “‘I want to go to tangerine middle school and I want to go with no IEP’”(Bloor 94). This shows that Paul is being brave and sticking up for himself to his mom. As a result of this choice to go to Tangerine Middle School Paul feels happy to be a part of Tangerine Middle School. Paul had to go to the seniors award cerimonie and then jumped on coach Warner's back while coach warner was giving a speech for rewards. Paul says, “I took off flying through the air. I landed hard on Coach Warner's back and I held on tight riding his neck and shoulders” (Bloor 259). As a result of this choice Paul will get in alot of trouble. This will affect Paul on where he goes to school and can mess up his education and mess him up from going to the school that he likes. This makes him feel cool or stuffy.
