Poe uses first person to let the reader understand that Poe is talking about himself in his stories. One example of Poe using first person speech is from the short story “The Tale-Tale Heart”. Poe states that is was “True-nervous-very-very dreadfully nervous I had been”. I believe the reason Poe used first person speech in the story of “The Tale-Tale Heart” is that he wanted the audience to feel the story he was telling.
