Rainsford a celebrated hunter falls overboard in the Caribbean and swims to a nearby island called ship trap island. A rich hunter living on the island named Zaroff takes him in and gives him food cloths and shelter. He tells him about his hunting then tells about his new animal. Rainsford realizes he means humans and is out raged when Zaroff offers to take him hunting. Zaroff sends Rainsford off with a knife a set of cloths and food then starts to hunt him.
The main character in the Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford, endured numerous troublesome trials. The last trial he endured, in my opinion, was the hardest; giving him the chance to attack and kill Zaroff right then and there, instead choosing not to take advantage of the situation. Ultimately, he confronted and challenged him to a fair and even sword fight, the winner getting to keep Zaroff 's home while the loser was fed to the dogs. This act shows a great deal of Rainsford 's character and personality, proving to be a man of honor and fairness, with respect in this scenario. Rainsford allowed an even fight to take place, and as a result, for his actions, he won while Zaroff received what he truly deserved.
Adrenaline rushing, heart pounding, and stressed. Nothing is working there is no way out, or is there? Aron Ralston, Hyeonseo Lee, and Sanger Rainsford. All of these characters demonstrate what it takes to be a true survivor. They all manage to survive what some would call the unimaginable, from escaping North Korea to being hunted like an animal by a maniac.
Hook: There are many situations where you would have to be a survivor. Aron Ralston, Hyeonseo Lee and Mr. Rainsford, a fictional character from “The Most Dangerous Game”, are all survivors. Ms. Lee had to leave North Korea illegally, Rainsford had to survive a murders game and Aron Ralston had to somehow find a way to get his arm out of a huge boulder. To be an extraordinary survivor you need three traits: determination, knowledge and hope. T:To begin Aron Ralston had determination.
Character Essay “I’ll agree to do nothing of the kind,” is Rainsford’s response when he is asked not to speak of the island where a man goes for his favorite hobby; murder (Connell 37). Rainsford is just a poor sailor who swam onto Ship Trap Island to escape the frigid waters that he accidentally fell into. He meets General Zaroff and learns about his personality and actions. Shortly after that, Rainsford soon realizes he needs to get off of the island as soon as he can.
In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Rainsford is a clever character. Rainsford first shows his cleverness when he is stranded in the ocean after falling off the boat. This shows how clever he is because he recalls what direction he heard the sound of gunshots from, and swims towards it. The way he doesn't give up after swimming for a long time and is confident with his decision portrays his intelligence. Soon after he makes it onto the island, he displays another act of cleverness when he observes a bullet and a destroyed bush, and makes inferences based on past experiences and knowledge.
Q: If Rainsford from “The Most Dangerous Game” went home and admitted to his involvement in the story and was put on trial for General Zaroff’s, what do you think would be the outcome? Rainsford murdered a human, everyone has their own opinions on whether it was right or wrong. Rainsford was helped off the island and Rainsford felt guilty so Rainsford confessed to killing General Zaroff. Rainsford was put on trial for General Zaroff’s murder, If the judge sees what Rainsford did as a homicide then Rainsford will be put in jail but if the judge see it as surviving then the judge might feel differently. But I do not think Rainsford will get away with no punishment because either way he murdered a human being.
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, but what really makes a hero a hero? In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, by Richard Connel, our course hero was introduced. He showed several characteristics of a hero, but some may argue he could also be a villain.
How the quote builds suspense is that the General is cheating, but Rainsford is using his surroundings and skills. Connell puts it in to build suspense because you never know what can happen. Connell uses tone to show how quickly the character can change, this makes the reader want to figure out the mystery. On the last day of the hunt, Rainsford had set up one last trap to try and kill General Zarroff. Rainsford set up his knife to a rope, when someone would walk on it, it would swing down and kill the person in front.
Hunting is a game where you can have fun killing a certain type of animal, but could be very dangerous at the same time. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford is a character that is a very good hunter. So one day him and his buddy's went out on a yacht and went out on the sea to go to the caribbean to look for this island to hunt Jaguars. But while on a yacht he feel of the boat and fell into the sea. Moving on he was on this Island and met this General.
In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell, Rainsford is shown going through the struggles in the game that General Zaroff made. Through a psychoanalytic lens, we can see how the story closely relates to Connell’s experiences in World War I. (Ariffin, 5) Connell was born on October 17, 1893, in New York. Little is known about his childhood, except that he had chosen to follow his father’s footsteps into newspaper editing by the time he was 10 years old. Connell was drafted into World War I when he was 23 years old where he edited the camp newspaper and served in France for a year.
In this case, the story is told mostly through Rainsford’s eyes which creates suspense, for Rainsford’s perspective is quite different from Zaroff’s. For instance, when Zaroff looked up at the tree Rainsford was hiding in but his eyes stopped before they “reached the limb where Rainsford lay” (Connell 12), the reader’s heart must’ve skipped a beat as they presumed that Zaroff had noticed Rainsford’s presence and decided to continue the game for entertainment. This creates suspense because if it had been in Zaroff’s point of view, the reader would know if he had seen Rainsford or not, but because it was in Rainsford’s point of view, this scene raises questions. On the other hand, after Rainsford had jumped off the cliff, the standpoint of the story shifts towards Zaroff. As he went home to have an “exceedingly good dinner in [Zaroff’s]
Suspense played a big role in the this story it created an ominous mood and made the reader wait. Is rainsford going to die how will this work out in or against Rainsfords favor ? These are all things that the reader might think when they hit a suspenseful part in the story “He let out a short hoarse cry he had reached to far and lost his balance the cry was pinched off short as the blood warm waters of the caribbean sea closed over his head.”(pg 69) Connell the author slowed down time in this very instinct he made the readers wait even longer to see if he made it out alive or drowned it creates questions for the readers and makes us interested. “The Most Dangerous game” by Richard Connell Uses the techniques of mood,irony,and suspense.
(15)”. He shows obvious dread of the island in his conversation with Rainsford. These statements foreshadow Rainsford getting trapped on the island. They make the readers feel uneasy about the island and fear for Rainsford and the rest of the crew which builds suspense. Another instance of foreshadowing in “The Most Dangerous Game” happens when Zaroff and Rainsford are having their conversation at supper.
There are several conflicts in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell; while person versus person is the most obvious, person versus self and person versus nature are also present. For example, the “jagged crags” upon which Rainsford lands scratch his hands until they are raw, and when Rainsford is trying to survive the hunt, nature once again acts as an obstacle. The muck is like “ a giant leech” and the insects “[bite] him savagely” through the dense vegetation. On the other hand, Rainsford faces an internal dilemma when he is talking to Zaroff about hunting humans for sport: while Rainsford is shocked by the proposition, he feels no revulsion, no disgust. Therefore, because Rainsford does not seem to have an internal aversion to Zaroff’s proposal, that causes a quandary - his lack of moral dilemma in this situation is a dilemma in itself.
