For example, politics, people's thoughts on politics can change. in the play, The Crucible, Reverend Hale's Thoughts over witchcraft in salem changed. To begin, reverend Hale in the beginning of the play, reverend hale was determined to get to the bottom of what's going on in Salem.
The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller. He wrote the play in 1952 and it was first performed January 22, 1953. Throughout the play Reverend Hale undergoes changes. At the beginning of the play, Hale is contacted by Reverend Parris because Parris believes witchcraft has come to Salem.
The Crucible Essay In the book “The crucible” by Arthur Miller, John hale changed throughout Act 1 to Act 4. He believed that witchcraft was true but towards the end he started to notice that proctor is telling the truth about him not having nothing to do witchcraft. Hale wanted to find and prosecute witches. He wanted to convict anyone who has to do with the devil.
Reverend Hale is the character that changes the most in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible because his feelings on witchcraft turns from full belief to unbelievable doubt, his thoughts on Proctor changes from thinking that he is evil to thinking that he is a good and honest man, and he switches from doing God’s work to doing the Devil’s. Reverend Hale makes a huge change on his claim of witchcraft. In the beginning of the play when Reverend is called to the town of Salem to see if the reason why Betty and Ruth are unconscious is due to witchcraft he brings with him many books. When he first enters Salem it seems his head is held high with knowledge and determination, but he will not allow any conclusions to be made unless they are from his books that guide him through witchcraft cases. After Abigail reveals she did not see the devil, Hale immediately makes an accusation and suspiciously asks, “Why are you concealing? Have you sold yourself to Lucifer?” (Miller 1259). Because of Hale’s authority, Abigail becomes defensive and puts the blame on Tituba.
When Reverend John Hale, in the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, signs the death warrants of multiple people, he unleashes an immense amount of chaos within the town, and himself. Reverend Hale enters Salem, in Massachusetts, “like a bridegroom to his beloved” (4.132) with intent to rid the town of the devil’s work. He hopes to help Salem by solving their witch problems through signing death warrants to those accused of witchcraft. Once Reverend Hale realizes the true corruption taking place in Salem, the deaths of innocent people flood his conscious and drive him to yearn for restoration of peace amongst the citizens in this township. Reverend Hale’s tragic flaws in Arthur Miller’s, The Crucible reveals Hale’s aspiration to revitalize faith and sanity in Salem, which in return lead to his redemption.
In the play, Hale said, "No man may longer doubt the powers of the dark are gathered in monstrous attack upon this village. There is too much evidence now to deny it" (Miller 171). Evidently, Hale thought that it was near impossible to ignore all the signs of evil. In act 2, his view remained the same, and when John Proctor proposed the idea of the accusations being false, Hale stood his ground and dismissed the idea completely. Hale said, "Only this consider: the world goes mad, and it profit nothing you should lay the cause to the vengeance of a little girl" (Miller 178).
When Reverend Hale first Appeared in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, he was very different from the person shown at the end of the play ... At first Hale believed that he was to be helpful and that he was doing the right thing, but by the end of the play he was stuck trying to fix his horrifying mistake, weighed down by the guilt from the lives of those killed. When Hale first appears in Act I, he is on his way to Salem in order to see Reverend Parris’ daughter, Betty. Abigail began accusing many people of witchcraft, which then led Betty to “wake” and join her in the accusations. this strengthened hale’s belief that he was doing good for the town of salem, encouraging him to stay in town and further the trials at hand.
In this essay there are a couple of things that need to be analyzed, the subjects that are being analyzed is how a few of the characters have changed or stayed the same throughout the play. The Crucible is about the Salem witch trials which got nineteen people killed because of a lie made up by a bunch of children. The play takes place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, during the years of 1692 and 1693. During this time there was a group of young women who were caught dancing in the woods and instead of getting in trouble they made up the lie that witches made them do it. That is just a background on what this essay will be about.
Throught the crucible in the beginning, middle, and end, Reverend Hale came to salem to find the truth. He came to salem carrying big books about witchery. Arthur Miller writes the crucible to show everyone in the 40’s that they were overreacting about communism and compares it to The Salem Witch Trials. In the crucible Reverend Hale comes to salem thinking he is going to find witches but leaving finding something else . He even says that they shouldn't jump to conclusions In the beginning of the crucible hale comes to salem and starts investigating but syas they shouldn't jump to conclusions for a matter so sensitive.
Hale no longer believes in the witch trials. Everything Reverend Hale came to Salem for now no longer means anything to him. By this point Reverend Hale, among others, has become fed up with the pretense and falseness of ‘The Salem Witch Trials’ and wants nothing more than for it to be over. (page 84, act four, Miller, Arthur The Crucible: A Play in Four Acts, Viking Press 1953) “ HALE, quickly to Danforth: Excellency, it is enough he confess himself. Let him sign it, let him sign it.”
The Crucible is a 1953 play written by Arthur Miller. It is amplified and somewhat novelized story of the Salem witch trials. Miller wrote the play as a parable to the McCarthyism persecution of communist sympathisers. In this play, a group of Puritan girls are found dancing and conjuring with the devil in the forest. Soon the whole village of Salem knows about the dancing and starts accusing people of witchcraft.
He is most worried that he will be destroyed because witchcraft is in his family. Luke 6:27-28 says, "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you," (Barker 1550). This is a perfect example of how Hale treated the people of Salem, and the exact opposite of how Parris treated the. Knowing this, it is obvious that Hale for the people in knowing the truth of morality; where as, Parris does not care about the truth but just wants what is best for
In the beginning acts, Hale was trusting the court more than John and was a big part of handling warrants of the accused individuals along with having much confidence in himself, his knowledge of witchcraft, and knowledge of witches in Salem. In Act 2 and 3 in the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the character Reverend Hale was changing a lot. Throughout the first act of this play Reverend Hale had much of his trust in the court and fully believed the devil is in Salem but as the trial begins and goes on things start to change when Hale starts to question the court shown when he pleads
The decisions that Mama Lola and her family make are altered by the teachings about the spirit Ogou because of their devotion to Hatian and Vudou traditions. Mama Lola grew up learning about Ogou and it is so ingrained in her life that she teaches it to her children to try and help influence their decision making for the better. But, since this family came to America social institutions that test their faith, Economic Class, Race and nationality make their decision making shaped by their devotion to Ogou. During this essay I am going to explain to you why their decision making by Ogou to help become more adapt to these institutions for the better.
