In Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol Stave five, we see a changed Scrooge, he has decided to change after seeing what will happen to him if he doesn’t. He wakes up and shouts “I will live in the past, the present, and the future! The spirits of all three shall strive within me. O Jacob Marley! Heaven and the Christmas time be praised for this! I say it on my knees, old Jacob, on my knees!” (104). Scrooge is a changed man, praying on his knees is something that he would never have done before. Scrooge is no longer dark and cold inside. “He was so fluttered and so glowing with his good intentions” (104) Scrooge is now glowing with joy, happiness and the Christmas Spirit. Next Scrooge went to Fred’s Christmas party to show some Christmas Spirit and to have a good time. “But he was early at the office next morning. Oh, he was early there! If he could catch Bob Cratchit coming in late! That is what he set his heart upon” (111). Scrooge is in the office early the next morning because he knows that there must be a balance of work and play.
