Shakespeare wrote at least 37 plays, the plays contain a variety of emotions one of them being suspense. Shakespeare wrote The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the story is a tragedy that leaves you craving for change. In The Tragedy of Romeo Juliet and Romeo are from opposite families who have an ancient grudge against one another they fall in love and both end up dying for the other. Shakespeare creates suspense throughout the play because the couple has multiple obstacles to overcome. The Tragedy of Romeo Juliet creates suspense when Romeo and Juliet fall in love and get married but the text foreshadows Romeo and Juliet death. Tybalt fights with Mercutio instead of Romeo. Romeo tries to stop the fighting but Tybalt stabs hims under his arm. A text example of this is “ Romeo. I do protest I never injured thee but love thee better than thou canst devise till thou shalt know the reason of my love; and so, good Capulet, which name I tender as dearly as my own, be satisfied” ( Shakespeare 1 3.1). The quote is of Romeo basically saying we can’t fight and I'm in love with your cousin but Tybalt is confused and mad and that leads Romeo to kill Mercutio. After Mercutio dies Romeo is very upset and goes after Tybalt. Romeo, blinded by pain and grief, then kills Tybalt. This is building suspense because Juliet will be angry, confused, and sad. The text states “Romeo. Alive in triumph, and Mercutio slain?... Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again that late thou gavest me; for Mercutio's soul… Staying for thine to keep him company. Either thou or I, Or both, Must go with him” (Shakespeare 3 3.1). Romeo is telling Tybalt he’s coming after him and avenging Mercutio. Act 3 is full of suspense and leaves you wanting to know what is going to happen to Romeo and Juliet and wondering how Juliet is going to take the death of her
