In the short story, “The Fun House”, by Sherman Alexie, Alexie uses anger and humour to tell a story of the Native American experience in the 21st century. After a mouse, loose in the house, climbs her leg, the mother is poked and prodded with jokes and her family making fun of her. Completely and utterly sick of this she says, “Why didn't you help me. you’re a couple of ungrateful little sh*ts. and I didn’t mean to give birth to you.” Storming out of the room her family has nothing to say in return for her anger. On top of having to care for a seemingly completely ungrateful family, she also has to deal with the government's constant abhor for the native people, she is tired and frustrated yet still manages not to give up.
