The play ‘The Rimers of Eldridge’ gives a twisted, yet vibrant array of interesting plot twists and suspense to always keep the viewer on the edge of their seat. It tells the story of a girl named Eva and a man named Skelly that live in a run down bible belt town by the name of Eldridge, located in Missouri. Skelly is being accused of raping the little crippled girl Eva, but he really did not commit this crime. He tried to stop this cynical crime from happening. You might think this would be a simple story. Skelly tells the police and the boy known as Driver Jr., gets arrested for the rape of this poor girl, but Skelly has a terrible reputation in this small, judgemental town for creepings and spying on girls and guys of all ages ,and things such as beastiality, …show more content…

The author gives off the feeling that even though the evidence is stacked against Skelly people still stay in the middle ground on the subject. The mood was definitely was suspenseful, eerie, and quite frankly dark; it was spine tingling and made you think about what awful events impede our word today. The rising action was the whole first act and most of the second act. One of the main rising actions was when Skelly was creeping on Driver Jr. and Eva in the woods. Also another rising action which also leaves suspense in the air is when Marry the old, slightly insane, mom of Nelly ( who later murders Skelly ) keeps saying she is hearing screams in the woods and tells Nelly to look and see what it is, but she always just blew Marry off and considered her even more hallucinogenic. The climax is when Nelly finally kills Skelly. There is not much of a falling action because of the sudden abrupt end the play after learning about the murder. The resolution was Skelly was murdered by Nelly and Driver Jr. got away with rape. The theme was, even when people are as undesirable and morally wrong sometimes they may be telling the truth, so we should always have a open mind on people and give them a chance to do
