Question 1A: The Stanley family demonstrated the hard work, determination, and ambition needed to realize the American Dream by never stopping to try to find work and working hard at the jobs they did have, and yet they still couldn't achieve the American Dream. They never stopped trying to find work because Claude Stanley turned down welfare, and instead opted to keep looking for a job, which showed his hard work and determination to find a job. Also, Claude Stanley became a lay minister, which showed his ambition to find a job in every way he could. Jackie Stanley showed that when she went into real estate and couldn't sell houses in certain areas, she still tried to sell houses in the poor and rundown area that she could, which showed her determination and ambition for her hard work. However, they didn't have just wages, and weren't being given the American Dream, even with their hard work, determination, and ambition. Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers is a part of their story because of all the unfair work they had to do. For most of the movie, most of the Stanley's and Neuman's didn't have a job that paid a just wage, and were living on and below the poverty line. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable also plays a part in their lives because they were marginalized, and weren't able to really take control of their lives. And in the movie, we see that the families waited through multiple presidencies for changes that never happened. In fact, things only got worse for most of them.
