George and Lennie would have gotten caught if they tried to make it out. There were people standing around them that would have seen them leave. On page 100 Steinbeck writes, “A man's voice called up the river, and another man answered.” The evidence shows that there were people surrounding them when they wanted to get away. First, George had to kill Lennie so he doesn't get in any more trouble. In the book George said, “Lennie if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush.” This shows us that Lennie has a history of getting in trouble and that in the future Lennie will probably get in more trouble. From this we can tell that George made a good decision to make sure that Lennie doesn't get in any more trouble. Next, George Killed Lennie because he knew that their dream would never come true. George tells Lennie on page 15, “ Sure we will,’ George said “Red and blue and green rabbits, Lennie. MIllions of’ em.” When George tells Lennie this he knows that their dream possibly won't come true. He knows it is not possible to have millions of red, blue, and green rabbits. He tells Lennie this to keep Lennie's hopes up. As you can see he made the right decision to kill Lennie so he isn't disappointed when their dream doesn't come
