From a dream to a death Lennie and George’s relationship differed throughout the novella. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a realistic fiction novella based in the Great Depression. The main Protagonists are Lennie and George. They face many hardships and the main antagonist being society. The characters show their infatuation and companionship throughout the novella.The main events that formed, the changes in Lennie and George's relationship are Aunt Clara's death,the incident in weed, starting work at the ranch, and the death of Curley's wife. In Weed Lennie saw a girl in a red dress and unknowingly grabbed the dress. As Lennie's touch was anything but diligent.. This scared the girl and being that he was disabled he couldn't let go of the dress as the girl wanted h to. In chapter 3 George describes the scene ro slim. He explains that Lennie was doing nothing wrong. “He was so scairt he couldn't let go of that dress” (Steinbeck 42) . This implies that Lennie didn't mean for such an incident to occur showing his innocence. In this chapter. The girl is being represented by society. As she tells the law that she had a disability. Lennie's disability is shown in chapter 3 “Make ‘um let me alone, George” (Steinbeck 63) This shows that Lennie is affected because of his disability. Like society the girl doesn't care about Lennie's disability. This event shapes George and Lennie's relationship because after this occurs George knows that someday this disability will come back to bite Lennie yet he still treats him as a friends and takes care of
