This book takes place during the Great Depression in the 1930’s with two men named George and Lennie who chase their dream of their own farm. On the way to chase their dreams they faced some adversity and Lennie made some bad choices and put Lennie and George in jeopardy. It is an ongoing thing for Lennie to put them in situations that George has to fix every time. George took care of most of the problems but Lennie killed Curley's wife, which led to George killing him, so he didn't suffer. Lennie has a mind like a child. He makes poor decisions but he spends most of his time listening to Gerorge. We see this when George and Lennie were down by the river on their way to the new ranch because Lennie drove them out of Weed. Lennie's mind likes soft things and he saw this girl's dress and it looked soft so he grabbed onto it and she screamed. Lennie grabbed the dress harder and she thought she was going to be raped. George is basically Lennie's parent in a way, and he keeps Lennie in check. Gerorge says, “‘When I think of the swell time I could have without you, I go nuts. I never get any peace’” (Steinbeck 12). Lennie responds to George saying, “‘George you want me to go away and leave you alone’” (Steinbeck 12).
