The recent event in the media that has bothered me the most is the Dan Schneider allegations. Schneider was the top screenwriter and producer for Nickelodeon from 1994 to 2019, producing shows such as ICarly, Zoey 101, All That, victorious, etc., and was recently accused of multiple acts of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior towards minors while on set, off set, and even on screen. The reason this event has affected me so much is because I grew up watching Nickelodeon, and the people affected by Schneider's actions were big parts of my childhood, and the fact that Schneider refuses to own up to his wrongdoings infuriates me. Another child star who has suffered at the hands of Dan Schneider was Amanda Bynes, the lead cast member on The Amanda Show. Bynes was very close to Schneider as he was responsible for her success, but many people began to notice his behavior towards her becoming inappropriate. He would make her and other child actors perform inappropriate and uncomfortable tasks on screen and while off-screen he was very physically affectionate towards Amanda, who was only thirteen at the time. Amanda Bynes has recently posted multiple tweets expressing how she has used drugs to deal with the trauma she endured as a child, and that Dan Schneider is one of the main reasons she will never get pregnant. Seeing how much these children suffered at such a young age while also working in mainstream television makes me wonder how this went unnoticed for so long.
