Students need strong, influential leaders to help them live strong, smart, and successful lives. The Jefferson Award is given to those who put others ahead of themselves to encourage them and others to do more good for the community. Someone who should be considered for this award is Tammi Milberg. She is a seventh-grade English teacher who has taught and inspired kids for 10 years. Tammi Milberg deserves this award because she is a creative and engaging teacher. One reason Tammi Milberg deserves the Jefferson Award is because she is creative. Milberg showed bright, colorful slides with animations that helped me focus better. This demonstrates that being creative as a teacher can really help students who are having trouble in class. Lastly, Kenzie Mahoney, a student, said, “She makes colorful and bright slides that relate to what we’re learning about, which helps me focus better.” This proves that Mrs. Milberg helps a lot of students focus and learn more when she does creative things. Clearly, Tammi Milberg deserves the Jefferson Award because her creativity as a teacher has had a big impact on a student’s learning and will continue to help students grow for many years. Others may say that a coach deserves the Jefferson Award because they are encouraging, however, Tammi Milberg deserves the award because she is an engaging teacher. According to “10 Qualities of a Good Teacher” by Danielle Gagnon, an educator at Southern New Hampshire University, she says, “Being able to engage students with humor, creative lessons and a strong classroom presence is an important part of what makes someone a good teacher.” (Gagnon, 2019).
