Living conditions differed dramatically between the working class and the middle class. The middle class’s living quarters were in much better shape than the working class. There was no need to worry about dirty water, space, or affording housing. They often lived in large houses that were fully furnished with lots of space. Since the middle class primarily owned factories they had large amounts of revenue pouring in, allowing them to live extremely luxurious lives.
The essay Inequality Undermines Democracy by Eduardo Porter discusses the income gap in today’s world. The first main point Porter describes how Americans are not concerned with the income gap even though it is wider than other developed countries. The United States government has expressed little concern over this issue as well since they have done little to anything to restrain the trend. I believe this has caused opportunities across classes to shrink and the middle class does not exist anymore. I would consider my family a working middle class and I hear my family talking about how the middle class has diminished and it is either the rich or the poor.
The more money the wealth has the less middle class there is. The more people that influences the wealthy the higher the social equality will grow. Krugman says “A society with highly unequal results is more or less inevitably a society with highly unequal opportunity, too (592).” Middle class is being denied for all the help that there is, while the wealth is getting help. They are force to live this way because of inequality in the world.
The lower-class is seen as the class that is struggling financially. They are the “blue collars” and “low wage workers” and people who work for other people. They are the social class with little to no college education. They are seen as the ones who rent properties and with little to no savings. They are seen as the social class that abuses of the welfare system.
Reading through RIP, the Middle Class: 1946-2013, it became fairly obvious that the author, Edward McClelland, was presenting a thesis idea that consisted of promoting the middle class through examples of its prime time when middle class thrived. McClelland made the point clearly as he repeatedly provided examples ranging from the glory days of the assembly line industry that had provided high paying jobs for many people, to presidents who attempted to keep business within the United States to promote home grown jobs. He was especially focused on the point that the middle class was shrinking due to a large discrepancy between the wealthy and the rest of society as capitalism achieves its goal of padding the wealthiest and keeping the middle
The middle class was created when factory managers, traders, and shippers became wealthy from the big production from the industries. In the 1800s the middle class split into two groups, the upper middle class and the lower middle class. The upper middle class
The wealthy continue to grow as they get more of everything and the lower class continue to get less. The average wealth has increased over the last 50 years, but it has not grown equally for all. “ Families near the bottom of the wealth distribution (those at the 10th percentile) went from having no wealth on average to being
People in the middle class are worse off than the upper class dwellers. People in the middle class can still get nice things, it may not be as nice as the upper class people get. These people tend to be in a mid sized house and own a budget car. They need to work hard to get what they want. The lower class people do not usually have anything nice.
People are destined to be ranked into a social class. Social class is something, which one is born into, and this class cannot be changed. These classes begin with the low, middle, and high classes. Each class has different tiers, such as upper middle class or lower middle class. One might argue that the acquirement of wealth can change one’s social class, or that a person can learn to live like the class above them.
The stalk market crash along with the Great Depression both affected the beginning of the middle class myth. People argue about non educated people or people who work at fast food restaurants make more than educated people. The middle class does not just mess with our money because all of our money has to do with our nation's economy so if the nation's economy isn't doing good then we all know the money that is being made in our household won't do any good. In our economy the commodity that builds our economy is our resouces, discussing a wider range of perspectives some argue about not living in the right condition. Some who might live in the city might have to pay more rather than someone who lives in the country or vice versa.
Discussion about Social class and poverty in America According to the textbook of Introduction to sociology, a social class is defined as a social ranking according to the economic position in which achieved characteristics can influence social mobility. Sociologist Daniel Rossides describes five social class: the upper class, the upper-middle class, the lower middle class, the working class and the lower class. Social class is decided by achieved and ascribed characteristics, and we can change our class by achieved work. Social class has powerful impacts on a person’s life.
The middle class want to become rich and the low class only wants equality.” Orwell’s predictions of the party, the government in modern society, rises to power and the poor stay poor. In LA Times “Income Inequality makes the rich more scrooge-like, study finds”, “Since the 1980’s -- the end of a 30-year period… wealth has grown increasingly concentrated at the top of the economic ladder, while low-income Americans have commanded a smaller and smaller share of the nation’s wealth.” *add where quote is from* ”... top 5 percent of American families saw their real income increase 74.9 percent… the lowest-income fifth saw a decrease in real income of 12.1 percent… Sharply contrasting with the 1947-79 period… with the lowest income group actually seeing the largest gains.”
The theory also implies that the society is arranged in layers. The layers produced by social stratification are labelled as upper class, middle class and working
The middle class in Great Britain had the right to vote, were usually considered wealthy, but didn’t routinely own servants like the upper class did. Life longevity was much longer as compared to the working class because the middle class typically didn’t work in factories alongside hundreds of people. The other class created was the working class, this replaced peasants, they were not as fortunate as the middle class. These guys worked in factories alongside women and children barely making any money, they often worked many hours a day, almost up to 16.
Social classes are a form of social stratification that refers to the existence of structured inequalities between individuals and groups in society. A social class is a group of people of comparable status, power and wealth which are usually classified as upper class, middle class, and lower class. For each class, there are some specific opportunities available that influence their social life. We can understand about the particularity of the chances through unequal distribution of these opportunities between individuals in social classes. In here belonging to a social class seems to be an obstacle for some individuals to obtain equal opportunity, unlike upper class people.
