Edgar Allan Poe is a very famous writer and his storys bring thoughts of madmen, murder, and melancholy to those that read them."The Raven" is a poem writen by Poe when he was 40 years old.The poem is about a man whos wife recently passed away and a raven which symbolizes her death and slowly puts him futher into madness.In Poes writing, he put symbols of what was happing in his life into them and that makes reacureing themes pop up in the poem.Some were stronger than others and you could compare them to see the similarities between problems that he was dealing with in his life and what the charcter in the poem was dealing with. One major theme you could compare in "The Raven" too poes life is the death of his wife.In "The Raven"the narrator's wife died and while this was going on Poe was taking care of his wife beacuse she had tuberculosis which in the end caused her death.So by the time Poe was done writing the poem his wife had passed and he was expercing a great deppreshion.His deppreshion was displayed in the poem by showing that the narroator was also expercing a great depprshion because of the death of his wife.This is one of the major themes that you can pick out from "The Raven" and you can prove it because along the period of him writing the peom he was dealing with the same problems as the narroator. …show more content…
