In the film, “Tales of the Grim Sleeper” it explores the different realms of sociology. In this essay I will be discussing the main sociology topics in this film.The main topics were race, class, sex, crime and justice, the economy, and sociological research methods. I will be talking about how deviance of serial killers intertwine with sociology. Race was one of the biggest topics in this film. Lonnie David Franklin Jr was a African American male citizen of Los Angeles. His family was of the lower class and lived in the ghetto. He convicted 14 serial murders over the course of 22 years. Many of Lonnie's neighbors never expected him to be doing the awful things he was doing, but more the interviewers spoke to them the more they started to see the suspicious activity Lonnie was up to. Lonnie would use vulnerable people desperate for money and work to do his dirty work for him. He paid a man to burn a vehicle that had evidence about his killings. Many believe Lonnie developed this hatred for “druggie prostitutes” after his first wife left him. Lonnie’s son Christopher developed deviance whenever he watched his father torture and kill these victims. Chris became very violent in his early years and was said that many believed his father abused him as well. Lonnie had an extreme dark sense of humor when he came to these murders. His neighbors recall him joking, “ Killing crackheads and cleaning up the streets.” He believed these prostitutes were worthless in this world. Lonnie had one surviving victim, Anitria. Anitria was shot and raped by Lonnie but ended up escaping without his notice. Anitria told the local police about the attempted murder
