He was the first to attended College, the College of William and Mary. He later went on to study law at Williamsburg.
‘The Fiftieth Gate’ is a biographical memoir where Mark Baker explores his parents’ personal history and is taken on his own journey on the understanding and importance of memory when discovering history. Baker shapes the audience to his view of history and memory through the exploration of his own journey of understanding and discovery. The text being written in a personal, memoir style text aids in shaping the audience’s understanding of Bakers actions, making the text seem more relatable by speaking in first person. Baker combines and gathers different types of text along his journey, including; conversations, documents, statistics, video sessions and various perspectives regarding the Holocaust. The use of various text types creates a sense of credibility with the audience.

Intro Paragraph: [Beginning remains the same because there was nothing marked wrong] Finally Jefferson intelligently makes an appeal to Madison’s ethos by reminding him of his previous statements in other works, to remind Madison of what he truly should stand for. Through these devices, Jefferson is able to convey a mood of hope and desire through his words and blueprints of building a more perfect union. First Body Paragraph (Logos and Appeal to Logic): Due to the gravity of the issues that Jefferson brings up in his letter, the first two paragraphs of it are used to strengthen his credibility and ideas by appealing strictly to facts and logic- things that Madison cannot disagree with.
Thomas Jefferson” does a better job showing the use of rhetoric. The video features two uses of rhetoric, ethos (credibility) and pathos (appealing to emotion). The story starts with Jefferson and Adams as best friends, that is until Adams gets elected president. Once elected Adams becomes somewhat of a tyrant, he begins bending and manipulating the constitution as he sees fit. Jefferson is unhappy with how Adams is running the country, so, he decides to run against him in the next election.
There is repetition of phrases, words, and letters in every paragraph. The West Point motto, “Duty, Honor, Country,” appears in the speech seven times, four of which are repeated in the last few paragraphs. He repeats a series of words when he writes, “Those hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be” (para.3). This repeated use of the words “what, you, and be,” creates a rhythm that he further emphasizes by leaving out a conjunction after the last comma.
In the speech, “The American Idea”, the text stated, “Thomas Jefferson put it into words—and the idea rang the call.” In this sentence the author uses Thomas Jefferson as someone who is famous. This sentence explains that when Thomas Jefferson put it into words it gave him an idea to do what he was trying to do. The authors also used logos in the speeches. In the speech “Keep Memory Alive” said, “ Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
In contrast to other universities of the day, at which were designed specifically allocated to one academic study, Thomas Jefferson vision was to establish a university model for the nation and for other countries, that could offer more than one academic major and create an academic village that would reflect the countries national character and stature, and that without a religious nature. Thomas Jefferson believed to be one of the most complicated, contradictory Presidents America has seen. In fact even in this day and age we are still amazed by and infatuated with trying to figure him out. He was considered to be a little unorthodox. Thomas Jefferson was born on April thirteenth, 1743 and later died on July fourth, 1826. Jefferson was one of the famous American Founding Fathers, the third President of the United States and was one of the authors of The Declaration of Independence.

This quote is important because it allows me to understand that Jefferson has to die because he was the only person in the liquor store and was a black man.
In 1972, Shirley Chisholm stood before thousands of people and presented her presidential bid declaration speech. Chisholm uses all three of Aristotle’s persuasive appeals. Throughout Chisholm’s speech, she used logos, pathos and ethos. Logos is the appeal to logic in which reasoning and facts comes into play. Then pathos is the appeal to emotions in which she uses words to pull and the heart strings of her audience.
Thomas Jefferson wrote "Determine never to be idle... It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing." So do we accomplish more if we are always doing something, or does inactivity also serve a purpose. In my opinion if we are always doing and being inactivity that would be a good thing I believe. Also other people may think differently they may think that being inactivity would be also better then doing.
By saying this, Eleanor presents the rhetorical device pathos, because she uses inspirational words to grab attention and connect with the listeners in a way that relates to them. She also uses vivid language to truly intrigue the audience to compromise and work together to provide peace for the country. Analyzing when authors create a speech they do so using rhetorical devices in order to help the audience comprehend their message. Within Anna Quindlen’s “A Quilt of a Country” and John F. Kennedy’s “The Immigrant Contribution,” both authors use pathos and ethos within their arguments to appeal their points of view to the American People. First, Quindlen and Kennedy use ethos to appeal and establish their credibility by appearing experience and educated knowledge. Both Quindlen in “A Quilt of a Country” and Kennedy within “The Immigrant Contribution” use ethos to appeal to the American people. Quindlen in her essay “A Quilt of a Country” uses ethos to introduce her argument.
In the Declaration of Independence, by Thomas Jefferson, he uses three of the major rhetorical techniques of persuasion such as: pathos, which is the appeal to emotion, logos, the appeal to logic, and ethos, the appeal to ethics. One of the many rhetorical techniques of persuasion in the Declaration of Independence, wrote by Jefferson, is pathos, in order to appeal to the reader's emotion.
