Oracles of Delphi Keep, written by Victoria Laurie, takes place in 1935 at an orphanage in Dover, England. The book follows a five year old boy, Ian Wigly who is living in an orphanage called Delphi Keep. One rainy night, when Ian is supposed to be sleeping, he looks out his bedroom window and spots a strange cloaked man on horseback galloping towards the orphanage. He decides to sneak downstairs and eavesdrop on the scene down below. He watches as a loud knock at the door causes Madam Scargill, the co-headmistress at Delphi Keep to rush to open the door, revealing the cloaked man astride his horse holding a small girl in his arms. As soon as they take the box, a large wolf like creature comes at them. Over the course of several days the wolf creature comes to the keep and rips up everything at the orphanage. The kindly Earl, who started Delphi Keep, invites the children to stay at his castle until he repairs the orphanage. In the meantime Ian makes friends with a new boy at the orphanage named Carl and the children receive two new twin school masters, Thatcher Goodwyn and Perry Goodwyn. When Ian shows the twin school masters his silver box they describe it as 'most curious' and then tell Ian that when they get the opportunity they should bring the box to a professor at Cambridge that they know very well. Later during a history lesson Theo begins shouting about how there is going to be a great war coming and then passes out. Later, after Ian tells Thatcher about Theo's uncanny ability to predict things such as the weather the Earl suggests Theo may have the gift of sight and recommends she visits his aunt who also has the gift of sight. The school masters agree to take Theo into London to visit with the Earl's aunt and bring Ian and Carl to show the professor at Cambridge the silver box. The professor figures out how to open the box and discovers and ancient prophecy inside. The prophecy tells of how a great war is coming and only Ian and his friends will
