William Ford the man who purchased Northup is not at all what anyone expected. Yes, he has thousands of dollars, but he uses all of that money towards the effectiveness of the town. In my opinion, he's a gentleman because in chapter six where Freeman and Ford were discussing Emily's cost. Ford was willing to pay a high amount of money just to see Eliza happy. That's a true gentleman. Not only did he show it but his kindness and love for the modern slaves he has bought is remarkable. He doesn't even allow Northup to rest of the dinner table, after a long day of work working out in the hot sun. Tibeats, unlike Ford, is never satisfied with anything, he is always complaining, cursing and in a horrible mood. One day Master Tibeats told Northup to retrieve nails and to place them on the clap board the next morning. Unfortunately, there weren't any nails fit into the characteristics Tibeats said, so Chapin, a worker of Tibeats gave him others. Furthermore, while Northup was close to finishing up; Tibeats comes up to him yelling at him angrily and told him, he is doing it all wrong. Although Northup does a good job at controlling his anger, he is raging with anger because he felt he didn't do anything wrong. Right, when Tibeats is almost going to kill Northup, Chapin enters the intervention and tell the master, it was him who gave Northup the needles and told him to continue.
