There were many similarities and differences of how Elli and Laura were treated before and after the S.S. Guard took over the Augsburg camp. A similarity of how they were treated was when Herr Zerkübel separated the girls into three work groups to help the German air force by boosting production of manufacturing parts. “Herr Zerkübel departs with a barely perceptible nod of his head in the direction of our military masters, and they escort us to our living quarters,”(Bitton-Jackson, 154). This quote shows that Herr Zerkübel was always serious and did not tolerate any nonsense before or after the S.S. Guard arrival.
