My father has proven that he has the aptitude to escape his comfort zone. He was born the youngest of eight children. Since his mother stayed at home to take care of the children, his father, who worked a blue collar job, was the only provider of income. My father was not the most fortunate in any way and had limited opportunities regarding his future. Despite his circumstances, he escaped his financial background and found success through hard work, leadership, and a keen problem solving ability.

The book Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario is a nonfiction book based on a real story told throughout 367 pages. The reason why I decided to read this book is that it was highly recommended by one of my former English teachers. I was extremely persuaded to read this book by her but I also personally believed that by reading this book I would gain a new understanding of life by really opening my mind to new experiences that other people go through.

My early childhood experiences up to my current college experiences molded me into the person I am today. I’ve acquired strength through my parents divorce, dealing with alcoholic relatives, and going through life’s daily challenges. These tough times allowed for me to mature as a writer and a person. Other experiences much lighter than those tough times have taught me to be grateful and never take things for granted. From sanitary jobs to delivering newspapers, my father remains resilient even when the labor became too difficult. Thus, he believes that even if it gets tough, anyone can achieve greatness by undergoing hard work. To my father, achieving greatness for us begins with education. Although my father never completed college, he prioritizes my education as well as my siblings.
Before my family and I had the opportunity to move to the United States, we were placed in several conflicting financial situations.
