Why has the English language changed so much over the past few centuries? What would you do if you were the center of that change? The person I am talking about might be a familiar or unfamiliar name and he goes by the name Shakespeare. Shakespeare has influenced so much of the English language and how it is shaped today. Many new upcoming authors, poets, playwrights, and actors look up to Shakespeare for inspiration. He also influences the kids that study him in school with his famous works of art that they learn about. Shakespeare has positively influenced the English language and people looking at it by majorly standardizing and improving grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.

During and after the 17th and 18th centuries Shakespeare continued to change the English language. One way he did that was he made correct spelling more common and used by many more people. This had an impact on many writings and authors at that time because of the way that people were changing their writing and spelling at that time. Also on the vocabulary end, he introduced around 1700 new words to the English language and had a major impact on many other words that had changed at that time. This started a major change in the English vocabulary, Shakespeare started a major change that completely changed the English vocabulary and made it more understandable and easier for people to read and write. Although he has introduced so many new things one major thing that he has introduced is profanity. Profanity usage has majorly increased since people saw Shakespeare use it in his writings. Some people could consider this a good thing but most don’t. People never really had a problem with profanity before but when Shakespeare started using it, profanity gained more popularity, especially in people’s writings.
